Police Order Wife To Turn Herself In
By Our Correspondent in Monrovia
When a local newspaper reported that he allegedly impregnated a 13-year old, Grand Gedeh Representative Morias Waylee denied he did. He claimed he did not know the rape victim. But tides are turning and the Liberia National Police has arrested the man who is allegedly fathering a four-month old baby girl born out of incest and rape.
Morias Waylee is in the hands of the Liberia National Police. But he is not the only person the police wants. The police during a press conference this afternoon local Liberian time, has ordered the wife of Mr. Waylee to turn herself in for questioning.
Waylee represents the Electoral District #2 of Grand Gedeh. Apparently his luck ran out that as he proceeded to the Capitol Building Thursday morning, July 13th, for regular legislative session and daily work routine he was greeted with an arrest warrant and arresting police officers ready to take him away.
Our Monrovia Correspondent says, police officers worked with the office of the Sergeant-At-Arms of the House of Representatives and presented Mr. Waylee his arrest warrant. Eyewitnesses at the Capitol told Groove 106FM that Waylee was immediately arrested and taken to the police headquarters for questioning.
The Grand Gedeh lawmaker was charged with “Criminal Conspiracy”, “Tampering with a Criminal Investigation” and “Tampering With Witnesses”. Waylee had failed to produce his driver who allegedly reported the incident to the media. Waylee told investigators that the driver was in the “sick bush” (an enclave of custom where individuals who are ill are taken to received traditional herb treatment).
Rather than allow the law to take its course, some lawmakers rushed to the police headquarters on Capital Bye-pass to negotiate the release of Mr. Waylee. Those who were seen pressuring the police Inspector General Col. Gregory Coleman to release their colleague were Rep. George Mulbah of District No. 3, Bong County; Rep. Zoe Pennue of District No. 1, Grand Gedeh, and Togbah Mulbah of District No. 5, Bong County. The Inspector General did not bow to their pressure.
Eyewitnesses say the police was adamant and did not yield to the pressure of the lawmakers. Mr. Waylee is expected to spend his first night in jail in connection with the raping and impregnating of a 13-year old girl who went to stay with him in Monrovia to go to school.
Before the police arrested Waylee, authorities of the Liberia National Police conferred with office of the Speaker and reportedly informed the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Emmanuel James Nuquay, that Waylee was going to be arrested. They reportedly exhibited the Writ of Arrest to Speaker Nuquay.
The police immediately moved into action handcuffing Waylee. As the arresting officers made their way out of the Capitol Building, a number of lawmakers – senators and representatives followed.
Those seen escorting Waylee to the Naitonal Police headquarters next door were Grand Gedeh Senior Senator G. Alphonso Gaye, Representatives Worlea Sawah Dunah of Nimba County, Zoe Emmanuel Pennue and Alex Grant of Grand Gedeh, George Mulbah, of Bong, Garrison Yealue, and the Chief of Office Staff of the Speaker, Eric Kennedy.
Waylee’s colleagues were seen in the corridor loitering and conversing with police officers and the Inspector General of Police Coleman in a bid to have alleged rapist released. It is unlikely Waylee would be released as Rape is a capital offense in Liberia. Persons charged with rape, statutory rape cannot be bailed out.
Not long when Waylee was taken into custody when Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe and some key officials of government arrived there.
The police ran Waylee’s fingers’ print and he wrote a formal statement. The local media reported on May 3, 2017 following a tip off by the driver of the lawmaker to the media. The driver has gone underground refusing to come public to give testimony of what he knows that happened before the 13-year old was impregnated.
Meanwhile, National Police has ordered the wife of Morias Waylee (name not revealed) to report herself to the headquarters of the police “immediately” to avoid arrest. The police want the wife of Waylee because the police said she might know more about the 13-year old rape victim and what transpired at her home where the girl was staying. It is not known if she has turned herself in.
In a related development, a family source is telling Groove 106FM that the 13-year old rape victim is still sick.
