A statement by Benoni Urey, presidential candidate for All Liberian Party (ALP), that “we will spoil it” in reaction to his discontent with the Liberian Government’s action of any sort is scaring many Liberians. Benoni’s brother, Emmanuel, says it is scaring for the man who wants to be president of the country to make such a threat.
The brother of the Standard-bearer of the All Liberian Party, Emmanuel Urey said that the recent comment attributed to his brother Benoni Urey threatening to flog and threaten to the spoil it is a scary signal that the Liberian people should take note of.
Emmanuel Urey, who concluding his PhD in environment and Resources at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, told Groove 106FM in Monrovia that the reported flogging of a police officer by the personal bodyguards of his brother, Benoni of the ALP shows that the country should be very careful who she elects in ensuring 2017 Representatives and Presidential elections.
According to Emmanuel, if the information is true or not, the best option for Mr. Benoni Urey was to condemned the act. He said his brother and the All Liberian People have failed to explain to the Liberian people why a police officer should be attacked by Benoni’s private security or to condemn the act.
Emmanuel could not definitively say he supports his brother for the presidency, but noted that his support would be based on who’s proffering the best alternatives and suitable ideas that can change the livelihood of the Liberian people.
On Monday of this week, it was reported in the local media that some private security guard assigned to ALP’s Standard Bearer Benoni Urey reportedly flogged an officer of the Liberia National Police.
The Liberia National Police say they had “short comings” in reference to procedural issues in an unfortunate situation in which opposition All Liberian Party (ALP) presidential candidate Benoni Urey’s private guards flogged Officer Roosevelt Jimmy in the first recorded elections violence on Monday, 31 July.
Following the unfortunate situation, Police authorities say they have decided to do a tactical adjustment considering the prevailing circumstances, announcing that they will relax regulation against commercial motorcycles during these elections process to accommodate political parties and candidates that may not afford vehicles for campaign purposes.
