Heavy downpour of rain overnight in the Sierra Leonean capital, Freetown, has caused a landslide killing over 200 people and destroying an unspecified number of houses. The mud and flooding reportedly plunged homes and roads.
The death toll is still scanty but sources in Freetown say the fatalities are likely to increase. Residents and aid workers dug out dead bodies during the morning hours and continued to the afternoon local time. Hospitals mortuaries are said to be overwhelmed as the number of bodies rises.
Our Sierra Leone Correspondent, who is current investigation issues in Northern Sierra Leone is reporting that several communities, including Mount Sugar Loof in Regent village, Allen Town, among others, are severely affected.

GRAPHIC SCENES OF MUDSLIDE IN FREETOWN
Although information about the landslide and the total number of houses and fatalities are scanty at the moment, our correspondent is working very hard to bring the details in our subsequent publication.
It can be recalled that on September 16, 2015, massive flooding occurred in Freetown when several houses were destroyed in slum communities.
Slum communities that were affected at the time were Kroo Bay and Susan’s Bay.
