The President of the National Rural Women of Liberia, Kebbeh Monger, is calling on women of Grand Bassa County to support female candidates in the 2017 elections.
Madam Monger says she wants women to vote for competent female candidates so that there can be more women in the house of parliament. She said women in the past did not take leadership seriously, but now they do.
She stressed that the number of women in both houses is less, adding that their cause can only be defended adequately when there are more women representing them in Liberian parliament.
She spoke Friday at the end of a one-day awareness meeting with rural women from the 5- Electoral Districts of Grand Bassa County and 2 Electoral Districts in Sinoe County at the Bassa High School Campus.
The participants commended their president and facilitator for the awareness that covered the importance of women voting, gender and sex, correctly using the ballot paper to avoid invalid votes among others.
The one day training organized by the National Rural Women of Liberia was sponsored by the UN Women with support from the Swedish family.
