The plenary of the House of Representatives has voted to maintain Chief Clerk Mildred Sayon and Sergeant-at-Arms, General Martin Johnson.
The House has also elected C. Cormicks Chea, replacing G. Sayfurh Geplay who died in October 2023.
The elections of the Secretariat Staff are in consonance with Article 49, which says: “The House of Representatives shall elect once every six years a Speaker who shall be the presiding officer of that body, a Deputy Speaker, and such other officers as shall ensure the proper functioning of the House.”
The Speaker, Deputy Speaker and other officers elected may be removed from office for cause by resolution of a two-third majority members of the House.
Aside from the re-election of Chief Clerk Mildred Sayon for the third term, the Sergeant-at-Arms of the House of Representatives, General Martin Johnson, was also elected for the fifth term.
The elections of the Secretariat development completed the leadership of that august body.
Madam Sayon, 51 and General Johnson, 59 were re-elected on Tuesday during the second d of sitting of the First Quarter of the House of Representatives.
Speaking to newsmen following their elections, madam Sayon expressed confident in herself.
‘I believe in myself; I don’t go for anything I know I will not get,” she noted.
For his part, general Martin Johnson hailed the outgoing speaker and speaker-elect for their numerous help given him during his health crisis.
