The October election in Liberia has drawn the attention and involvement of many civil society groups, one of them the Election Coordinating Committee in Liberia (ECC). The group has recently provided elections monitor training for 15 people from four counties in Liberia.
The 15 people were trained on basic techniques in monitoring campaigns in their respective counties. Those trained are from Montserrado, Margibi, Rivercess and Grand Bassa Counties.
A Steering Committee Member of the ECC, Victoria Wollie disclosed that those trained are trusted people and are playing no part in political activities currently underway in Liberia, adding that their work has begun effective July 31 up to October 8, 2017.
She said that the ECC will conduct a press conference at the end of the monitoring of the campaign to inform the public about what they observed during the campaign process.
The Election Coordinating Committee had monitored two major elections in Liberia, the 2011 Legislative and Presidential elections and a special senatorial election.
The ECC recently monitored the voter registration exercise in Liberia.
The two days Training took place at the Bassa Women Development Association office on the Fairground in Buchanan.
The Trainees promised to be professional in the discharge of their duties. They thanked ECC for the training describing it as welcoming.
